The Very Beginning

Language begins before we were born.

It started with hearing our mother’s heartbeat, voices, and sounds.

It was the warmth of someone’s knee, their language, and the images on the pages of our very first book.

Engage the child in language and experiences.

An early way for children to hear language and it’s rhythm is with small rhymes such as:

So…….Let’s think about children aged 0-3. There is a lot going on here. Most of their language development is listening. They are taking it ALL in! They are receptive. They will begin to make cooing sounds, crying, smiling, pointing and gesturing, single words, two words together, and short simple phrases.

I have a new grandson, born 03/30/21. I was thrilled to hear he had to go for a hearing test. This was not the norm when I had my children and the benefit of picking up hearing issues right away is so important! Thank goodness this is a common practice in Olds, Alberta, Canada. All babies born in Alberta, or born to parents who live in Alberta, can have a free hearing test within 90 days of their birth. It’s best for babies to be screened by 1 month of age.

In a nut shell, in the next stages of language development, the child will begin to produce more single words, phrases and simple sentences. Articulation gradually improves and sentences become longer and more complex. Soon vacabulary increases and children begin to be able to share their emotions and feelings and can comprehend the language of others.

The preschool age is an impressionable time for children. Many experiences and rich language is crucial.

Make it stand out.

It all begins with an idea. Maybe you want to launch a business. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.
